Mardi Gras

I had never been to a Mardi Gras parade until this past February. Joseph and I had long discussed going and finally, a weekend in February became available for us to go. We live in central Mississippi and New Orleans, LA is about 4 hours away.

I wanted to go to a Mardi Gras parade that was geared more towards families and the Krewe of Pearl did not disappoint. This parade is held in Picayune, MS.  If you aren't familiar with how this works, let me explain.

In this particular parade, you park along the parade route. It is best to bring your own loot bags because the children will need something to put all their goodies in. The parade begins and the children go wild for all the goodies that are thrown out to them. They don't just through out beads. My boys came home with stuffed toys, crowns, rings, daggers, and much more.

The children loved the parade. It lasted for about 45 minutes. My mother accompanied us on the trip. She and my dad have gone to the Mardi Gras parade Krewe of Neptune in Biloxi, MS. She said that their parade was much longer. Hopefully, we can make plans for 2021 and go to that particular parade.

After catching beads, we stopped in Paul's Pastry Shop for some King Cake. If you are traveling to Picayune, MS, Paul's Pastry Shop is a must stop!

To say that the boys caught some beads is an understatement. We brought back King Cakes for the boys to share with their class at school and they also had enough beads to give to their fellow classmates. We had a really great time and will hopefully go back next year!
