Mediterranean Lifestyle Part 5
Journal Entry #5:
The word “walk” or “walking” is found throughout
the Bible, both in the Old and New Testaments. Early on in Genesis 3:8 tells us
“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as He was walking in
the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God.” Enoch began
walking with the Lord after his son, Methuselah, was born.
In Matthew 14: 22-27, we read where Jesus
actually walked on water and then again, in Luke 24:13-33 Jesus is depicted as
walking on the road to Emmaus.
Walking was apart of Jesus’ everyday life and I
believe that not only should we take special consideration to our Spiritual
Walk with Christ, but also our physical walk with Him as well.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the Department of Health and Human
Services recommends most healthy adults, should at least participate in 150
minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic
activity, or an equivalent combination of moderate and vigorous aerobic
activity. The guidelines suggest that you spread out this exercise during the
course of a week.
The Mayo Clinic confirms that a regular, brisk walk can help
maintain a healthy weight, prevent or manage heart disease, high blood
pressure, and type 2 diabetes, strengthen bones and muscles, improve mood, and
improve balance and coordination. The faster, farther, and more frequently one
walks, the great the benefits.
After walking, one can enjoy a delicious fruit smoothie that can
replenish the body of nutrients. This smoothie recipe can be modified to your
fruit preferences. I have even added spinach to mine.
